This has been a long time coming, but I’m finally switching the site to Hugo. For those who are new, my site was previously just made with my own ad-hoc HTML and CSS. It was extremely difficult to manage (also due in part to my lack of version control knowledge) and looked like something out of the 90s (which may be comforting to 90s kids or those who say they’re 90s kids but were born in the 2000s, it’s okay, we all do it).
A static site generator like Hugo makes websites easier to manage without the software bloat of a traditional CMS like WordPress. (I considered coding my own in Java, but it wouldn’t have been as fast as Hugo, written in Go.) Hugo makes content production easier by letting me write it in Markdown and then turning that into a web page.
In addition, I’m using the PaperMod theme because I like minimalistic design and don’t want to build my own theme right now. (I believe I have it in me to make a friendly UI, but I’d have to work on it a lot because I’m not particularly practiced in it.)
I hope to get better at Hugo, but it’s a busy time right now, and I can’t do much other than schoolwork, applying for jobs, tutoring and a little bit of scripting on the side.
(FYI: I write these posts before going to bed as a way to wind down. I think it’s good to have an hour or so before bed when you’re not using technology.)
